Sonia, 2024
This quilt was designed in response to QuiltCon 2025’s Fabric Challenge. Windham Fabrics was sponsoring a challenge to design a modern quilt using between three and up to six designated solid fabrics, with no additional fabrics to be added. I chose to work with all six colours.
My curved designs were continuing to evolve, moving more towards the Orphism art movement of the early 1900’s. The works of Robert and Sonia Delauney with their use of spheres, colour and placement drew me in and inspired me to see if and how this style of art could be translated into fabric. When I made this quilt, it was the most complicated design, using the most challenging construction techniques, I had undertaken to date.
Sonia was submitted for consideration to QuiltCon 2025, and much to my delight, was juried into the show.
Reverse side of quilt made from various rejected blocks and remnants of fabric.
